Man Utd boss Solskjaer: Maguire can have Van Dijk-like impact

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Harry Maguire could have a similar impact as Virgil van Dijk has had at Liverpool.

United broke the transfer record for a defender when they signed Maguire for £80million this summer eclipsing the £75million Liverpool paid for Van Dijk in January 2017 and comparisons have already been drawn between the two centre backs.

“I don't want to compare us to Liverpool or Harry to van Dijk," Solskjaer said. "But I know Harry is going to have a massive impact on us, yes.

“Already this week when he has been in, you can see the impact he has got as a presence in the group."

Maguire has been training with his new teammates for nearly a week and Solskjaer has already seen him make big impact on the rest of the squad.

"I'm delighted we have got Harry in because he's going to be great for this club. He was always my number one target," Solskjaer said.

"He has already shown what a presence he will be and what an impact he will have in the squad," he said, "He's a leader, an established international, a goal threat and a very, very good defender - but also a very composed ball player."
