Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits buying long-term players remains the priority.
Solskajer insists a sluggish winter market is understandable as they seek the right additions - for the right price.
He explained, "We have to spend our money wisely, that's one of the keys for me.
"We've spent a lot of money in the last five or six seasons after Sir Alex Ferguson left, and I, along with the club, have to make sure that when we spend money now, it's on the right players and the right types, who will stay here long term and at the same time contribute with their quality now.
"Football has changed, money has changed tremendously. Players who can improve Manchester United and the top teams are very expensive these days."
