Man Utd boss Moyes: Mata will take heat off Fellaini

Manchester United boss David Moyes believes Juan Mata's arrival will lift the pressure off Marouane Fellaini's shoulders.

Moyes admits Fellaini suffered under the gaze of being their only summer signing.

"Injury has given more of a chance to settle down and with not quite as much pressure on him to perform," says Moyes. "We hope he will now get opportunities to show what he can do. He will get chances to do that."

Moyes was hoping for more activity last summer after he took over as United manager would have helped the newcomer from Goodison.

"I think (not being the saviour) will help. Always when you come to a new club you would ideally not bring in one new player. You want to bring in two or three new players," added the Reds boss. "But the window was difficult in August. I tried to do other business that didn't quite come off. We got Felli very, very late in the window. It was near enough a case of him coming in and going right into the team which was difficult for him.

"I wouldn't say it was a big problem for him because he had been playing games for Everton. He was fit enough and ready to play but maybe we were at a stage where nobody was quite sure how we were going to be and everybody was expecting a lot from him. But when he gets a chance again he will be back in amongst it."
