Man Utd boss Mourinho refuses to give Rashford set position

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho admits he doesn't want to give Marcus Rashford a defined position.

The 20-year-old began his United career as a striker but under Mourinho has spent most of his playing time on the left flank.

"I think his position is in relation to the way his team plays," Mourinho said. "In the case of the national team, if they play normally with five at the back and two players in attack, I think that's his position [up front]. He cannot be a wing-back in a system of five. He cannot replace Luke Shaw or Trippier, or Danny Rose at all. In that system he must play centrally.

"To be in a system of four, to be a winger wide, is to take him a little bit out of his position but the way Manchester United play is three attacking players.

"Sometimes we play with two [strikers], but when we play with three, our three attacking players are not wingers, not wide, not open all the time. They have the freedom to come and play in between positions and any one of the three positions is a good position for him."
