Man Utd boss Mourinho: Players knew where Crystal Palace left space, but...

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho admits Crystal Palace's tactical approach was difficult to overcome for Saturday's 0-0 draw.

Mourinho bemoaned United's failure to build on a positive start against Palace, who have not won at home all season and last secured a Premier League victory on September 15.

"That's my work and I never complain about my work, I give everything that I can every day," Mourinho said when asked about how his approach differs from some of his players. "Look, I was very happy in the beginning of the game, I look to the game and saw our two training sessions where we explore the spaces they give, we knew perfectly where to find them.

"The 4-4-2, super closed, Townsend and Zaha not defending the full-backs, defending the number six position and accumulating six players in three rows in the centre of the pitch, we knew where the space was, we used that space and after that we didn't score goals based on that.

"So of course frustration, but what can you do? Especially having a match in two days is the good thing of it, not a long time to be mourning because tomorrow training.

"You can influence players especially when they are open to it, when a player is open to it, when a player realises he has to give more and change his nature a little bit when they are open, they change. There are many, many, many examples, that coaches, managers, change a little bit, not the DNA, but the players' emotional qualities."
