Jose Mourinho has reportedly told Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward that as many as 12 players could be discarded this summer.
According to Spanish publication El Confidential, Woodward and Mourinho met on Friday with the Portuguese highlighting a dozen Red Devils he could do without for next season and beyond.
It is understood that Spanish midfield pair Juan Mata and Ander Herrera are most at risk of losing their place in the United squad.
Mourinho of course sold Mata to Old Trafford when he was in charge at Chelsea and it appears as though the incoming manager has no plans to again work with the 28-year-old.
West Ham United and his former club Valencia are keen on Mata.
Herrera could also be on his way out the exit door this off-season and is reportedly attracting interest from Juventus and his old employer, Athletic Bilbao.
