Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has reiterated that he knew about Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement before the general public.

Mourinho was touted as a possible replacement for Ferguson in 2013, but he instead chose a return to Chelsea.

United ended up appointing David Moyes, who did not even last a full season.

"He told me a huge secret not many people knew one month before the decision," he revealed on Netflix's "Alex Ferguson: Secret to Success" documentary.

"I knew he trusted me because it was a huge decision.

"But I was scared. Finally he told the media and it was a sense of relief for me."
