Man Utd boss Mourinho axes Martial: Alexis must play

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho admits he will bench Anthony Martial for Saturday's clash with Wolves.

Martial scored for the first time since January in Manchester United's 3-0 win in Switzerland at Young Boys - but is still to convince his manager he deserves a place ahead of Alexis Sanchez.

The Frenchman is weighing up an offer of a new five-year contract after telling the club he wanted to leave at the end of last season.

Asked if Martial was ready to challenge for a regular place on the left of attack ahead of Saturday's game against Wolves, Mourinho's response was blunt.

“Sanchez plays tomorrow," he said. “Because Martial played 90 minutes (on Wednesday) and Sanchez played zero."
