Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was seriously considering a deadline day bid for Everton youngster Jack Rodwell.
The Manchester Evening News says Paul Scholes' early season form convinced Ferguson to scrap plans for a deadline day swoop for Everton starlet Rodwell.
The Reds had been tipped to make a last minute offer for Rodwell, with Fergie a known admirer of the versatile 19-year-old.
But Scholes, who has rolled back the years with a series of superb displays, forced the United manager into a rethink.
