Man Utd boss Ferguson making late dash to beat Real Madrid for Canales

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to make a late dash to Spain today to land Racing Santander starlet Sergio Canales.

The People says United want Canales badly as he is relatively cheap and could have the same impact as Cristiano Ronaldo.

Canales' father has already met United academy officials as well as visiting Arsenal and Chelsea - but news of a potential Manchester City bid sparked Ferguson into life.

While City sent their chief scout and a director, the United boss has personally swung into action and has the bit between his teeth.

Canales' contract at Racing runs out in the summer, so he is free to speak to any foreign club and they are queuing up for his services.

The Spanish media have even quoted his dad saying he has agreed to go to Real, but United know that he has left the door open for them.

Real are believed to have agreed to pay Racing around £5million and then loan Canales to them for a year, but Fergie will attempt to hijack the deal.
