Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was forced to change his weekend plans as the Wayne Rooney controversy hit.

The Daily Mail says Ferguson responded to the reports by cancelling a visit to the stables of racehorse trainer Paul Nicholls in Somerset.

Rooney had dinner with his team-mates last night and stayed with them at the hotel.
