Man Utd boss Ferguson: Ferdinand may face Roma

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he is hopeful of having Rio Ferdinand available for selection for Manchester United's Champions League quarter final, second leg with Roma on Wednesday.

The centre back came off injured in the Premier League draw with Middlesbrough at the weekend, and fears of a broken metatarsal were allayed on Monday with the news that a scan had proven there was no fracture in his foot.

The club were initially cagey on the full extent of the England international's problem, refusing to disclose exactly how long he would be out for.

Now Ferguson has said the 29-year-old should be fit to face the Italian side at Old Trafford, but he will have to wait until Wednesday morning to make a final decision on whether Ferdinand will feature.
