Manchester United's new assistant Chris Armas could help the club sign RB Leipzig utility Tyler Adams.
Former New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC manager Armas recently joined as assistant to Ralf Rangnick.
The pair have already begun to draw up plans for the January transfer window.
And with Newcastle likely to sign long-term target Kieran Trippier, other options are being assessed.
The Athletic says Adams is an option.
Armas worked with the 22-year-old defender at the New York Red Bulls.
The USA international can operate at right-back or holding midfielder, which appeals to Rangnick.
He is under contract with RB Leipzig until the summer of 2025 and it is unclear if the German club would be willing to sell.
