The 19-year-old right back impressed in the 4-1 win against Fulham in his second Premier League start and was handed the man of the match award for his efforts.
And Mata, who scored his 50th Premier League goal in the first half, believes the Portuguese defender has what it takes to build a successful career at the club.
"He is a very good guy, he came with the difficulty of a knee injury and he is working very hard," Mata told MUTV. "He is a good guy and I'm very happy he is finding his feet at the club.
"He is still very young and if he is very lucky with injuries, which I hope he will be, he can be a very, very good player."
