Bruno Fernandes admits he was close to joining Tottenham before signing for Manchester United last January.

Spurs pushed hard to sign the former Sporting CP captain last summer.

Fernandes recalled to the UTD Podcast: "The truth is that I was closer to Spurs than United but Sporting declined their offer.

"They probably thought I was worth more than Tottenham were willing to pay.

"I was a little disappointed that I was not allowed to go to Tottenham. But for me, everything got much better in the end because I came to United. The club I really wanted to play for."
