Man City midfielder Fernandinho to receive contract extension

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is set to receive a 12-month contract extension.

The Brazilian star has been a mainstay in the City side for many years, and manager Pep Guardiola has spoken repeatedly in the past of his importance to the side.

And Fernandinho is to be offered a new deal, say The Sun.

The player's importance to the side has grown even more this season, as Fernandinho was tasked to undertake leadership responsibilities following the departure of Vincent Kompany.

An injury crisis within the City ranks has now even led Fernandinho to take the position of the former club captain, filling in at centre-half as a makeshift defender.
