Manchester City have turned their attention to Everton midfielder James McCarthy after missing out on Aston Villa's Fabian Delph.
Delph was slated to join City for a fee of £8million, but a last minute change of heart from the 25-year-old scuppered the move.
The Daily Express is reporting that McCarthy is now the top midfield target in City's summer transfer window.
It is understood that Toffees boss Roberto Martinez wants to keep the Irish international at Goodison Park, but a big money offer from City may test Everton's resolve.
McCarthy is also believed to be the subject of interest from Tottenham.
