Man City U18 coach Vicens delighted with Delap progress

Manchester City U18 coach Carlos Vicens is full of praise for Liam Delap.

Delap scored twice in the 6-1 FA Youth Cup win against Birmingham City.

“We know Liam very well, I worked with him all last season and he's a winner," Vicens told the Manchester Evening News.

“He's a guy who loves being around this group of players, enjoys being on the pitch and obviously with his passion, his energy, his power, he's almost a guy that creates fear when he's on the pitch.

“The team knows him very well as well, so he compliments well with the players around him which creates a good synergy in the team which is massive for us.

“I think for me the most important thing is he behaves as if he was a regular with the Under-18s when he's in training.

“For me that's the most important thing because it shows his hunger, competitiveness and his desire to do well regardless of if he's training with Pep, he's training with Enzo or he's training with me.

“I think that's something coaches really appreciate from him because he's not taking for granted that he'll play or he'll do well just because he jumps on the pitch.

“Obviously when he's with Pep he'll improve on a daily basis, but the most important thing is that he behaves the same with the First Team as he does with the Under-18s.

“We've seen Liam progressing a lot since he joined us last season.

“He's a big asset for the club and he's the guy that impresses us more every day. But obviously he needs a team effort and needs a collective performance around him to get the most out of him."

“And I think it's what we try to provide the team with, everyone working for one thing, going in the same direction and then the top talents will flourish even more when you have the collective performance and I think that's what we did."
