Manchester City are chasing Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic. The Daily Star says City boss Manuel Pellegrini will make his move for the Croatia and Atletico Madrid striker in the hope of luring him to the Etihad Stadium next month.
The Chilean is desperate to bring in attacking re-enforcements and has made Mandzukic his top target.
Pellegrini was keen on Papis Cisse and believed he could land the Newcastle hitman on the cheap.
But he has been put off by the Magpies' staggering £35m asking price and has turned to Mandzukic as he represents a better deal.
A club source said: "The problem in attack needs solving as soon as possible and Mario is the leading target.
"It might be difficult to sign him but if anyone can do it then City can, with the funds they have at their disposal."
