Man City striker Nmecha: I'm at Anderlecht because of Kompany

Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha says he's with Anderlecht because of coach Vincent Kompany.

The former City captain signed Nmecha on-loan this season.

The Germany U21 striker told Sporza via Voetbal24: "He is the reason that I am here.

"He said I would take a big step in my development here. And for the time being it is going according to plan.

"Whether he treats me differently? No, I don't think so. If I don't play well, I would also fall off the team."

Anderlecht coach Kompany would love to keep his striker, who is on-loan from City to the end of this season.

"I only think about the now," responds Nmecha. "I want to do well here in the play-offs now. I don't want to be distracted."

Nmecha is on a straight loan with Anderlecht, with the deal not including a permanent option, and has enjoyed career best form this season. The striker has 18 goals in 36 games so far this campaign and also has produced three assists.

Nmecha is contracted to City until 2022. While a Germany U21 international, he also represented England at youth level from U16 to U21. With City, Nmecha has played three times, making his Premier League debut in 2018.

Kompany is in his second season in charge of Anderlecht and with Nmecha's assistance, they're now playing for a place in the Champions League next season.
