Man City still waiting on captain Kompany

Pep Guardiola has stated that Vincent Kompany is still not ready to make a return to action for Manchester City.

Kompany has not played a single game since being ruled out with a thigh injury back in May but there were suggestions recently that the City captain was close to returning to full fitness.

Now manager Guardiola has gone on to provide an update regarding Kompany's injury status and has explained that the central defender is still short of match fitness ahead of the third round EFL Cup meeting with Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday.

Guardiola said: "I have to speak with him and speak to the doctors.

"When the doctor tells me long term he is ready to play, he will start to play.

"We play every three days and we cannot play with the same people all of the time."
