Vincent Kompany admits Manchester City left absolutely everything out on the playing field on Sunday.
City lifted the Capital One Cup at Wembley after beating Liverpool 3-1 in a penalty shootout following the 1-1 draw at the end of extra-time.
The eventual winners had a number of chances throughout and although it may have been frustrating at times, Kompany was ecstatic as the Manchester club lifted their fifth trophy since 2011.
"It's not the best way (to win), it's the most unfair way," said the Belgian on Sky Sports.
"There was so much emotion in this final, we were having so many chances and missing so many. We left everything out on the pitch.
"We have got experience, we looked around ourselves, we found a moment of peace and calm and kept doing what we were doing. They were playing well but we were creating chances."
Fernandinho opened the scoring for City on 49 minutes before Philippe Coutinho replied for the Reds in the 83rd minute.
After an extra 30 minutes, the game was forced to penalties with City keeper Willy Caballero making three saves to win it for Manuel Pellegrini's men.
