Man City signing Julian Alvarez: My dream was always to play in Europe

Former River Plate striker Julian Alvarez is delighted with his move to Manchester City.

The 22-year-old says that moving to Europe was always part of his long-term ambition.

“I'm very happy to be part of this club," he told mancity.com.

“As a boy I always dreamed of playing in Europe, playing in the best clubs, in the major leagues and so to be here today is a privilege.

“Obviously this is a big change, but I think it has similarities with what happened to me until now: from one of the biggest clubs in South America to one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Although it has its differences, there are many things that are similar."

Alvarez penned a five-year City deal in January but remained with River Plate until the end of their campaign.

He is looking forward to working with Pep Guardiola who he has already spoke with earlier in the year and believes he will flourish under the Catalan's tutelage.

“I was able to talk to him in February, when the signing was confirmed," he said.

“He welcomed me to the club. I am glad to be part of the City project. I think he is one of the best coaches in the world and he has been at incredibly successful clubs.

“I want to do a good job for him, to continue growing as a footballer and as a person."
