Manchester City have reacted with surprise to a story that a bid was submitted for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez.

City have reportedly pulled out of a deal for Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, and were said to have turned to Gimenez instead.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo said an offer came in from City.

"We did receive the offer," he told El Transistor.

"But Gimenez is a magnificent player and we are interested in having magnificent players in the team."

However, Goal is reporting that City insist they did not make any such bid.

They may want the 25-year-old, but City is firm in saying no official bid was submitted.
