Man City's Milner expects England's standards will not drop

James Milner believes England will maintain the standards they set in their opening Euro2016 qualifier when they meet minnows San Marino on Thursday night.

The Three Lions, who opened their Group E campaign with a 2-0 victory in Switzerland last month, host San Marino at Wembley in their second outing and the Manchester City midfielder is expecting a professional performance.

England were not tipped to dispose of the Swiss in Basel on September 8 but Milner feels this next match is one they should win and expects he and his teammates to get the job done.

"We can't let our standards drop," he said.

"Everyone knows this is a game we should win and that's not being disrespectful. But when teams come and sit it's not easy to break them down.

"The biggest thing is not letting standards drop even against a lesser opposition. We want to keep improving.

"Obviously it's a game we should win and everybody knows that, but we have to go out there and do it.

"As a team and an individual we all just want to go out there and put on a good performance and keep working on what we've been working on and keep improving - that's the biggest thing - and hopefully the result and the goals will come from that.

"To just go in there and start thinking about the goals, we have be concentrating on the game and how we want to play and if we can do that hopefully the goals will come."

After England meet San Marino in London, they will travel to Tallinn to take on Estonia on Sunday in their third Euro2016 qualifier.
