Jesus ends drought as ruthless Man City put five past Newcastle

Manchester City were utterly ruthless after bouncing back from a shock to win 5-0 over Newcastle on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola's side were stunned by Southampton over the weekend and they weren't going to let it happen again against the Magpies.

Gabriel Jesus ended his nine-game goal drought by scoring from David Silva's cutback, with Riyad Mahrez adding a second after 21 minutes.

Federico Fernandez's own goal made it 3-0 early in the second half before David Silva and Raheem Sterling rounded off the victory.

City have now all but guaranteed a second-place finish as they move nine points ahead of Leicester.

Speaking after the game, Mahrez was delighted with his side's performance.

"That's our team – (we know) that everyone can score - everyone has the quality to score," Mahrez said.

"For me I want to try to help the team and score the most goals that I can.

"It's not easy but we made it easy by scoring early in the game. And after we had more control and could try to score more goals.

"I think we played good (at Southampton) we missed a lot of chances today we scored - that's the difference."
