Man City pursue deal for Ajax midfielder De Jong despite FFP bombshell

Manchester City are pursuing their interest in Frenkie De Jong, despite potentially facing an investigation into their finances.

The Daily Mail reports that City are preparing a £50m move for the Ajax midfielder, who has emerged as one of the most coveted young talents in Europe.

German publication Der Speigel recently released leaked emails that revealed how City had tried to get around Financial Fair Play laws.

City are now expected to face a number of investigations by organisations including FIFA and HM Revenue and Customs.

That hasn't stopped their interest in De Jong. The 21-year-old is viewed by the club as a perfect replacement for the ageing Fernandinho.

Manchester United and Barcelona have also listed De Jong as a prime target for the summer.
