Man City offered Barcelona captain Messi - with contract demands revealed

Manchester City are being offered unsettled Barcelona captain Lionel Messi.

Off contract in June, staying with Barcelona remains the most likely possibility for Messi, but he will need to accept a steep pay cut to do so, especially with the La Liga side set to pump most of their funds this summer into sealing a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

And The Sun reports he is willing to agree a 12-month deal elsewhere, if they can stump up a weekly wage of £500,000-a-week after tax.

That would see Messi earn around £25m a year, making him the best paid player in Premier League history, were he to join the mega-rich Man City.

PSG are the only other side in world football who could potentially afford those wages, but with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe both set to stay on in the French capital, Mauricio Pochettino could be risking the balance of his attack by bringing in Messi.
