Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has recalled his move to Shakhtar Donetsk early in his career.
Fernandinho left Brazil for Ukraine in 2005.
He wrote for the Players' Tribune: “I was 20 years old when I received an offer from Shakhtar. Then I knew nothing about European football, let alone Ukraine. At the time, I was doing well at Atlético Paranaense, but I was still a kid from Londrina with little experience with the outside world.
"When an offer came from Shakhtar, it was great news for me. And a nice financial side. The club paid me in-game bonuses in cash. It was a lot of money. It was crazy.
"I showed it to my wife and she ended up wrapping them in a towel and hiding them in our pressure cooker. She said, 'Nobody's going to get it here. Ukrainians don't even know what a pressure cooker is'. Ha ha."
