Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva insists he never turned down Manchester United.

The former AS Monaco ace joined City last year amid claims of rival interest from United.

But Silva says: "There was someone on the plane who thought I was going to Manchester United. He was a fan of United. I did not tell him he was wrong. Many people did not know where I was going.

"I heard about that interest and I have friends at United. One of the physios who was with me in Monaco. The coach, of course, is Portuguese.

"(Victor) Lindelof, I was with him in Benfica. (Nemanja) Matic, I worked with him in Benfica, so I know some players. But I must be precise, the only official offer received by my agent was that of City."
