Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed Ilkay Gundogan following his two-goal performance against Basel on Tuesday night.

The Sky Blues sealed a comprehensive 4-0 victory over the Swiss champions, all but booking their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The German midfielder endured a tough debut season at City due to a serious knee injury. But this term he has recaptured the form that made him a star at Borussia Dortmund.

"Ilkay Gundogan is an extraordinary player," Guardiola said after the emphatic win over Basel.

"Last season we missed him a lot with an injury for six months and that's why we are so satisfied, not just the quality but personality to play."
