Man City latest club to pursue Bournemouth defender Ake

Manchester City are the latest team to show an interest in Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

Reports in the English media over the weekend suggested that City were close to making an approach for the player.

Pep Guardiola is an admirer of the player, while Ake would fulfil the homegrown quota for City as well.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea are other clubs who also have an interest. It is said Chelsea have first refusal on the player they sold to Bournemouth.

When asked about the defender's future in his Friday press conference, boss Eddie Howe said: "I think it's a compliment to Nathan and how he's played since he signed permanently for us.

"He's been a model of consistency. He picked up all the player-of-the-year awards last season and has carried that form into this season. I've been really pleased with him.

"With any type of speculation that you are linked with and with the clubs he's been mentioned with, it's a good sign. That doesn't mean we're about to lose him. He's a massive part of what we're doing."
