Ederson has joked about replacing Manchester City teammate Kevin De Bruyne in midfield.
The goalkeeper has been lauded for his technical ability since joining City in 2017.
City have a history of fielding goalkeepers as outfield players, including David James playing as a striker against Middlesbrough in 2005.
When discussing James' cameo against Boro, Ederson told the club's website: "If I were to go outfield like this, I would not ask to be a striker.
"I would prefer to play in the midfield. In Kevin's place!
"If I were to choose, if someone asked me to play, I would say: 'Take off De Bruyne and play me!' It would not change anything!"
