Manchester City great Vincent Kompany is set to announce his playing retirement - with immediate effect.
Kompany will now be solely manager of Anderlecht, having acted as player-manager in his first season in charge last term, reports Sporza. He takes over from Frank Vercauteren, who is leaving the club.
There has been tension between the pair since Vercauteren was appointed to assist Kompany part-way through last season.
Kompany wants to transfer the playing style of Pep Guardiola to Anderlecht, while Vercauteren wanted to be more pragmatic and more result-oriented.
Kompany does not yet have all his training papers, but since Friday he is registered with a Pro License, which according to License manager Nils Van Branteghem is enough to act as head coach in Belgium.
