Manchester City are not happy at the scheduling for their Checkatrade Trophy quarter final.

The game is taking place one day before the Carabao Cup semi final second leg against Burton.

City had been hoping to play a lot of youngsters in the game against Burton, given the low stakes.

And those players would be involved in the Checkatrade game. But now the club will have to pick and choose who plays in which game, as playing two days in a row is out of the question.

And the EFL are refusing to move the game between City U21s and Sunderland U21s.

According to Sky Sports, City offered six different dates for the game, but all were rejected.

The EFL said in a statement: "There is a significant amount of sympathy with the position outlined by Manchester City with the fact that the dating of this game could remove one opportunity for the club's younger players to play in a first-team competitive game."

"The EFL is committed to delivering valuable playing opportunities for young players and would have assisted, if it had been practically possible, but the alternative dates all had issues with them.

"The EFL is grateful for the support of both clubs towards the Checkatrade Trophy and Pep Guardiola's backing of the Carabao Cup."
