Man City defender Stones: We've done our Fernandes homework

Manchester City defender John Stones is up for today's derby test against Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Portugal midfielder Fernandes has made an immediate impact for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since his £47million signing on January 30.

City and England defender Stones, 25, said: “That is why clubs are making that sort of signing in mid-season.

“Sometimes, maybe it is just to bring something new or to bring back a spark to the side.

“I have not watched too much of him personally – but I know he is another threat and we'll do our homework over the next few days."

As Pep Guardiola's stars head into enemy territory again today Stones claimed it's an occasion guaranteed to bring the best out of his team-mates.

Stones said: “Definitely, but you have got to play with no fear.

“Obviously, you still get nerves from such an occasion. If players say you don't get nerves then I think they are lying.

“But it is a game we know we can win – and that is not being arrogant, it is having a positive mindset, believing in each other and the process."
