Man City defender Laporte granted Spain citizenship

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte is now a Spanish citizen, and eligible for the national side.

The 26-year-old was born in France, played for the French national side at youth level, but has not appeared for the senior team.

According to Goal.com, Laporte is now a dual French and Spanish national, given his great-grandparents were Basque.

He spent six seasons with Athletic Club before joining Manchester City in 2018.

The Spanish government confirmed Laprote's citizenship on Wednesday.
