Man City defender Demichelis involved in shock betting scandal

Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis is facing sanction from the Football Association for betting on overseas football matches earlier this year.

The 35-year-old Argentine is accused of wagering on 12 fixtures between January 22 and 28, a direct breach of FA Rule E8.

The rule states professional players must not bet on 'any match or competition in which they participate, or in which they have any influence…either directly or indirectly, or instruct, permit, cause or enable any person to bet on any result, progress or conduct of a match'.

Demichelis, has until 5pm on April 5 appeal the charges, which could see him fined or potentially facing a ban.

"When I arrive in England I am going to talk with the lawyers about the charge I am accused of," Demichelis told a South American radio station.
