Man City defender Akanji warns Arsenal: Title race far from over

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji says they can only focus on their own form in the Premier League race.

With 14 matches remaining, Pep Guardiola has predicted more twists and turns and Akanji agrees with the manager's assessment.

“I feel really good, I feel confident," the City defender said about the title race. “We are obviously two points behind and played one more game than Arsenal, but we still have to play against them and there's a lot of games left.

“It's on us to win our games and focus on ourselves."

The game at Bournemouth, which kicks off at 17:30 (UK) is the fourth of five consecutive away matches and is followed by the FA Cup clash at Bristol City.

It comes after our 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig in the Champions League with the second leg back at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday 14 March.

“It's an away game in the knockout stage of the Champions League – it's never going to be easy; it doesn't matter which team you face," the Swiss international said.

“I think we played really well with the ball in the first half, and we were in control. We deserved the goal; we had good pressing but in the second half they changed it up a little bit and it was more difficult for us.

“We made some mistakes. They put more pressure on us and we didn't play well with the ball. We gave it away too easily.

“It's something we can work on for the second game. Leipzig is a really good team. We've got to look at what we did and hopefully improve for the second one.

“In the end I think it's deservedly a 1-1. It's all open, we have an open game and I'm looking forward to the game."
