Man City chief Estiarte: What Pep told me after first Maresca meeting...

Manchester City team manager Manuel Estiarte has no doubts about the impact Enzo Maresca will make with Parma.

Maresca has taken charge of Serie BParma after leaving City as U23 coach.

Estiarte told Tuttosport AM via TMW: "Maresca is 10 in everything.

"Years ago he came to Manchester to study Guardiola. At the end of training they talked to each other for half an hour.

"That evening Pep called me into his office and said: 'This one understands us'."

Maresca took charge of City's U23 team only last season, leading them to a first ever Premier League 2 title. He also took the U21 team into the knockout stages of the EFL Trophy.

Before moving to City last year, Maresca had a spell at West Ham United as assistant manager to Manuel Pellegrini. He also had assistant coaching spells with Sevilla and Ascoli.

In Italy, Maresca enjoyed a lengthy career, playing for the likes of Juventus, Fiorentina and Sampdoria. Parma were relegated from Serie A last season.

Estiarte, meanwhile, is a water polo Olympics gold medal winner with Spain. He followed Guardiola to City having been firm friends since the 1990s.
