Man City boss Pep accuses Chelsea of transfer hypocrisy

Pep Guardiola did not take too kindly to recent comments from Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

The Italian indicated that Pep's Manchester City and Jose Mourinho's Manchester United show that spending big in the transfer market does not necessarily breed success.

But Guardiola took offence to Conte's opinion, suggesting the West London club can be accused of hypocrisy after splashing big bucks on such players as David Luiz, Michy Batshuayi, Marcos Alonso and N'Golo Kante this past summer.

"I played with Barcelona and won the Champions League with eight guys grown from the academy," he said.

"Zero cost to win the Champions League.

"People think that just City spend money but all the clubs around the world – in Spain, Germany, England and Italy – they spend a lot of money.

"You cannot forget all the players that cost Chelsea a lot of money."
