Man City boss Hughes planning new defensive signings

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes is planning to spend in the January market.

The Mirror says while Hughes continues to have faith in his new £40million central defensive pairing of Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott, despite their lack of focus on Sunday, the same cannot be said for Micah Richards and Wayne Bridge.

Hughes has already been told funds will be made available for him to strengthen his squad in January, with a right-back, left-back and a creative midfielder the positions he is looking to fill.

Richards has failed to command a regular first-team place and only played against Fulham because Pablo Zabaleta was banned, yet he too is seen as a temporary solution until a specialist right-back is found.

Bridge has not had the desired impact since his much-heralded £14m move from Chelsea last January, with Sylvinho - signed as a free agent from Barcelona in the summer - putting pressure on him.
