Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has dismissed claims he will keep his job if they win the UEFA Cup.

Hughes said: "I don't think winning the cup will strengthen my position. My position doesn't change until someone tells me it changes.

"I know with the quality of the staff and the players we have we can be successful. We are trying to build something for the future and it won't happen overnight.

"The timescale and the pressure is placed on us by people. Not by ourselves."
