Man City boss Guardiola praises Solskjaer's work at Man Utd

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to return Manchester United to their former glory years.

Solskjaer has got the wood over Guardiola twice this year, including Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg, although City advanced on aggregate.

And Guardiola thinks Solskjaer's philosophy will work in the years to come.

"I like the way they play a lot," he told reporters.

"The quality of players up front is incredible. I said before when we lost at home, I have the feeling they are trying to do what the manager wants. I think it works.

"Maybe they are not consistent. Maybe at home they struggle against the teams who defend deep.

"I think in time they will come back to what United was for many, many years."

Guardiola added does not believe that the anger towards Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is warranted.

Woodward's home was attacked by United fans on Tuesday.

He continued: "I don't like it. I don't like what happened with Ed Woodward at home. You see the squad for United, it's really good. Honestly, it's really good.

"So that is not the way to do that. When you talk about what happened [City fans making plane gestures], I didn't know it. If it would happen, that is not nice. Absolutely not."
