Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Vincent Kompany must fight for his place.
The 30-year-old is yet to play under Pep Guardiola, whose medical staff are poring over blood tests to decipher exactly why their captain continues to pick up injuries.
"I need Vincent because I know his quality," Guardiola said. "I need him to put pressure on John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi, Aleks Kolarov - all of them.
"They have to compete with each other, we'll see on the pitch what is the best for that game.
"They have to know if they don't play good that there's another one beside me and the next time he is going to play."
