Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Gabriel Jesus deserved his four goals in victory over Watford.

Jesus was at his marauding, effervescent best, inspiring City to another crucial league victory which extended our advantage over Liverpool at the top of the table to four points – for 24 hours at least.

For Jesus, a memorable afternoon's work against the Hornets featured what was his first-ever Premier League treble.

And reflecting on the win and the striker's performance, the City boss was effusive in his praise and said that seeing the striker claim his four-goals had made him 'the happiest man in the world'.

“I said before if there is one person in world football who deserves nights like he had it is him," Guardiola declared.

“I am pretty sure there is not one person who knows him who is not happy for him.

“He always has chances, scores goals and gets assists and I think what a lot of people have realised is what he can do without the ball.

“It doesn't matter that he is a striker or winger. We are so delighted with him and he helps us a lot to win the game.

“The assists from Oleks and Kev were fantastic but he has to be there.

“He is so generous and when you behave in a positive way life and football rewards you with what you deserve.

"He doesn't need to do a performance like today and score for goals for us to know what he can do.

“Against Liverpool in the FA Cup he had two clear chances. He was there and the goal Jack scored Gabriel gave it to him. He has an incredible ability.

“He is always thinking what is best for the team.

“Personally, when he has days like today I am the happiest man in the world because he is always there.

“When he doesn't play, the day after he is training like it's the last day. That's why he will have an incredible long and successful career.

“Good things are going to happen in his life, that's for sure."
