The Daily Mail says Guardiola invited members of the club's non-football training ground staff in on a meeting with the first team on Friday.
The City boss promoted unity during an impassioned address. The importance of imposing themselves was stressed, as well as the enormity of the occasion.
Despite the 3-1 reverse, Guardiola felt his players responded in the right fashion and could have left Merseyside with a result.
Guardiola normally stages such meetings towards the end of the season and after trophy wins, using them to thank everybody - from cleaners to caterers to players - for their efforts.
But the 48-year-old is trying new methods of galvanising his team.
