Man City and Gundogan break passing records for Chelsea win

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan broke a Premier League record in victory over Chelsea on Sunday.

City were able to play a record breaking number of passes in a Premier League game, and Gundogan was allowed to set the new standard for individual balls, reports the Daily Mail.

German international midfielder Gundogan played the most successful Premier League passes by a single player in a game, with 167.

Unsurprisingly, he also broke a City player's record - Yaya Toure, who in December 2011 played 157 passes in a game against Stoke City.

Such was the home side's dominance on Sunday, another player - left back Oleksandr Zinchenko - got himself fifth on the all-time leader board, playing 147 completed passes.

Opta reveal that Manchester City played 902 successful passes during the game, the first Premier League side since the stats were first recorded in 2003 to make over 900 passes in a league match.
