Man City ace David Silva avoids retrospective action

Manchester City ace David Silva won't face retrospective action for his X-rated challenge on Andreas Pereira during last night's defeat of Manchester United.

The Daily Mail says the Spaniard leaped to head the ball and then appeared to plant his boot into Pereira's chest as he returned to the ground.

Silva did not receive a yellow card from referee Andre Marriner at the time and there won't be any retrospective punishment for the incident.

The challenge occurred in the 70th minute at Old Trafford, shortly after Leroy Sane had doubled City's lead in their 2-0 win.

City's 2-0 win, courtesy of goals early in the second half by Bernardo Silva and Sane, returned them above Liverpool to the top of the Premier League.

David Silva was named man of the match for his performance.
