Malouda urges Chelsea to keep chequebook closed

Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda says they should keep their chequebook closed this month.

Malouda believes the Blues shouldn't make any signings this month because there is a lack of “top players" available. Thomas Tuchel's team have been in freefall in recent weeks after winning just one of their last seven Premier League matches.

“I don't think in the market there are too many players that fit what they need," Malouda told the Daily Express, in conjunction with William Hill.

“There are not too many top, top players who are available - and Chelsea should be looking at only adding players who are going to help them challenge for trophies and provide competition for their first team.

“Honestly, with the squad Chelsea have and because of the players who are fit and available, I think there's still enough quality that they don't need to [bring anyone in].

“They have brought in good players like [Romelu] Lukaku. Players are at the Africa Cup of Nations so, when everyone is available, the competition will be strong [again]."
